Beginning in the 2017- 2018 school year, Taltree joined three great environmental education organizations to provide Mighty Acorn programming to local students. Through the Northwest Indiana Environmental Education Partnership, along with The Field Museum, Dunes Learning Center, and Shirley Heinze Land Trust and funded with support from ArcelorMittal, Taltree is engaging students in outdoor and hands on learning.
The Mighty Acorns program engages 3rd-5th grade students and teachers in the Midwest in stewardship, exploration, and meaningful interaction with their local ecosystems through field studies and hands-on, action-based learning opportunities. These opportunities allow students to develop a lasting connection with nature.
