Collections
Arboretums and/or botanic gardens have a collection of living plants. These plants are documented in plant records which are used in research and education programs. Records enable the staff and outside researchers to maintain information about origin, plant family, growth, hardiness, and other information that is used in plant evaluation. Acquired woody plants on permanent display are given an accession number that stays with the plant its entire life. Accessioned plants are labeled in the field for identification and information. A computer database of all accessioned plants is maintained and updated on a regular basis.
Taltree's collections are located throughout the grounds in gardens and natural areas. The horticulture staff at Taltree is responsible for maintaining the collections in the field.
