A Spooky Good Time!
Held the entire month of October, The Haunted Railroad & Fall Festival is sure to be a spooky good time. This family friendly event kicks off with scarecrows and a Halloween railway garden of skeleton conductors, ghost passengers, spiders and haunted houses all month long.
The Haunted Railroad garden is open daily from 10 am to 7 pm. On Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 5 pm, special fall fest activities include hayrides, kid Sprout Express rides and fall foods, such as caramel apples and pumpkin pie.
Check out the Trail of Scarecrows entries and vote for your favorite ones! These scarecrows were created by K-5th graders from school, community and family groups. First, second and third prizes will be awarded to the scarecrows with the most votes.
Take a hike day or night! On October 1, 8 & 15 enjoy an evening hike through the arboretum and learn about the wild nightlife. On Saturday, October 4, learn about the fungus among us on a morning hike through the woods via Cardinal Trail. On Saturday, October 11, take in the view on our Fall color hike through the arboretum. On October 25, learn about the dark side of plants. This class will introduce you to the dark side of plants and the harm they can inflict. You learn how to identify the more common ‘dark’ plants. Cost: $15/members/$17 Non-Members. Reservations required.
Haunted Railroad, Trail of Scarecrows and fall hikes are free with general admission. Hayrides are $5 per adult (13 & above) and $3 per child (ages 2-12). Sprout Express rides are $2 per ride. Sprout Express rides are restricted to children weighing less than 100 lbs. Food selection and prices varies. Only service dogs are allowed in Visitors Center Depot and Railway Garden.
