Go Green Fest
June 1 - 30| Free with admission
Go Green Month is an educational festival about making a positive impact on the environment around you with healthy choices. The event features hands-on workshops, hikes, “green” exhibits and an outdoor benefit concert by American English, Northwest Indiana’s favorite Beatles tribute band.
All event activities are free for ArcelorMittal employees with valid ID. Taltree member and non-member fees listed below per activity.
Schedule of Events:
Night Hikes: June 5 8-9 pm (adult only); June 12 & 19th 8-9 pm (kid-friendly). Night hikes provide a rare opportunity for people to see nocturnal animals, learn about the five senses, enjoy the noises of cicadas and crickets, and explore nature. Registration is required. Hikes are limited to 20 people. Members – adult (13-above) $6 , senior (55+) and child (12 and under) $4; Non-members – adult (13-above) $7 , senior (55+) and child (12 and under) $5. REGISTER HERE.
Butterflies & Insects Hike: June 7th 10:30-12:30 pm. Learn about butterflies and insects. Hike through the prairie. Visit our Monarch butterfly waystation. Learn about butterfly migration patterns, butterfly friendly plant species and more. Kid-friendly. Taltree members free; Non-members free with gate admission. REGISTER HERE.
Table Top Gardening: June 7th and 14th 1-3 pm. Parents and their children will learn together how to create a simple, take-home garden by planting their very own garden under the careful instruction our horticultural staff. Kid-friendly. Green Cleaning Class: June 14th 11-12 pm. Learn tips and tools about how to clean your house using green cleaning methods. Free yourself from the uses of chemicals but still have the clean house you deserve! First 24 people receive a free bottle of Seventh Generation multipurpose spray. Adult only. Composting At Home: June 21st 8:30-9:30 am. Learn three ways to compost in your backyard. The class will be held at the ArcelorMittal Adventure Garden and will discuss worm, black soldier fly and vegan composting. Kid-friendly. Taltree members free; Non-members free with gate admission. American English: June 27th at 6:30-8:30 pm. American English will perform all of the Fab Four favorites under the stars near the Railway Garden. Concert attendees will learn a few ways they can be better conservationists by making small changes in their daily routines through recycling, water conservation and more. Also, there will be a rain barrel silent auction throughout the evening. The rain barrels were painted by community organizations. There will even be a complete DIY rain barrel with painting kit available. Bid on your favorite to take home. Also, a Fender Stratocaster guitar raffle will be held. Fenders was used extensively by John Lennon and George Harrison throughout their career. Raffle tickets are $1 a piece. Concert tickets are $20 members/$25 non-members.
